The Parallel

The Automation Layer

The automotive industry runs on vehicles. Vehicles are assembled from parts: engine, transmission, fuel tank, drivetrain.

The automation layer is the same. Workflows are assembled from Cloudflare products: Workers, Durable Objects, D1, Queues.

The parts, assembled.

The Philosophy

Zuhandenheit

When you drive a well-engineered car, you think about where you're going—not how the transmission shifts. The parts recede; the journey remains. That's Zuhandenheit: the tool becomes invisible in use.

Weniger, aber besser

Ferdinand Porsche couldn't find the sports car of his dreams, so he built it himself. Then he removed everything that didn't serve performance. The 930 added a turbocharger without changing what the 911 was—more power, same essence.

The Cockpit

Not the windshield—that's passive glass you look through. The cockpit is the entire control interface: instrument cluster, controls, everything angled toward the driver. Like the 930's interior where even the center console tilts toward you.

The Outcome Test

✓ PASS
"I arrived on time"
✗ FAIL
"The variable valve timing optimized fuel burn"

Users describe destinations, not mechanics.
If they mention the engine, something broke.
